For speech and drama teachers

Hear every piece before the next lesson.

Set a poem, a speech or a scene. Students record it on a phone, and you grade each take with a letter or a rubric, add a comment and reply with a recording of how it could go.

Free for up to 10 students. Studio plan: up to 30 students for $19 a month, for one teacher.

A student's phone showing a recorded poem: the take handed in, graded B+, with the teacher's comment and a recorded reply to play.

How a week works

  • Live class, one link

Put your Zoom, Teams or Google Meet link on the weekly timetable. Students join from their own page, from 15 minutes before it starts.

  • Set the piece

Put the words in the assignment and record your own reading of them. Students play your version as often as they like.

  • Takes recorded at home

Students record on a phone in the browser, with nothing to install, and can record again until they are happy. Every take you grade is kept, so you both hear the piece come along.

  • A grade, a comment and a reply

Grade each take from A+ to C or with a rubric of your own, such as voice, pace and expression, add a comment, and record a reply of how it could go.

The teacher's page for one take, graded: the recording to play, the grade B+, the comment and a recorded reply, with the form to change them.

Speeches, debate and reading aloud

Public speaking, debate practice and reading aloud work the same way: set the piece, hear each take and reply. Written work, such as the case for a motion, comes in as an assignment you mark, with a rubric if you like.

For families

  • Children learn under a parent's account, with the parent's consent. The parent chooses who is learning, hears every take and your feedback, and is emailed about assignment grades and reminders instead of the child.
  • Recordings are private: only the student, the parent and your staff can play them.
  • We put no ads or analytics on the pages students use.
  • Read what we keep about children before you invite a family.

What else is in it

  • Lessons

Text, audio, video and documents, in the order you set.

  • A timetable for each batch

Weekly sessions with a class link for each, and a register for each day.

  • Attendance and progress

See who came, who has handed in a take, and who is waiting for feedback.

  • Certificates

Issue a certificate of completion that anyone can check on a public page.

What it does not do

  • Takes are sound, not video. A student can upload a short video file to an ordinary assignment, up to 20 MB.
  • It does not send invoices or take payment for lessons. Keep the tool you use for that.

What it costs

Prices are in US dollars a month, excluding taxes. Every paid plan has every feature.

  • Free

Up to 10 students and every feature but your own web address and name, with smaller AI allowances and no time limit. One person runs it.

  • Studio: $19 a month

For one teacher: up to 30 students, 10 GB of files and no other staff. A month with more than 30 active students renews on Cohort 50, or the plan its size needs. To add a second teacher, move to Cohort 50 from Billing: it changes at once, and you pay the difference for the rest of the month.

  • Cohort 50: $149 a month

For a school with several teachers: up to 50 students and as many staff as you need, and larger plans by size. $89 at the founding price.

Questions and answers

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Students record, replay and hand in a take from the phone browser, and play your reply there. If the recording is lost on the way, the page says so and keeps the take so the student can send it again.

Can I mark with my own criteria?

Yes. Give an assignment a rubric of your own criteria and levels, such as voice, pace and expression, or grade with a letter from A+ to C instead. One assignment uses one or the other.

Can students hand in a video?

Takes are recorded as sound. For movement and staging, a student can upload a short video file, up to 20 MB, to an ordinary assignment, or you watch in the live class.

Who can hear the recordings?

The student, the teacher's staff who may grade that take and, for a child, the parent whose account they learn under. Recordings are stored privately and played only through a signed-in page, never from a public address. The pages students use carry no ads or analytics.

Can children use it?

Yes. Children learn under a parent's account, with the parent's consent. The parent can withdraw consent for each organisation at any time, which ends the child's place there; once no consent is left, the child's records are erased.

What happens when I stop?

If your Studio subscription ends, your organisation continues on the free plan, with up to 10 students, and nothing is erased; you can subscribe again at any time. A Cohort 50 or larger subscription that ends is different: staff can still read everything but change nothing, students are paused, and the organisation's data is erased 60 days after the end.
