When Codio is the better choice
- Your courses need full Linux virtual machines or containers for every learner.
- You teach inside Canvas, Brightspace or Blackboard, which Codio names among its integrations and we have not yet tested.
- You have fewer than 15 active learners a month, where Codio's list price is lower.
- You want a vendor with a longer history than ours.
When The Skill Site is the better choice
- You run scheduled cohorts for employers and want timetables, attendance, hours and assignments in the same place as the coding, rather than in a second system.
- You need to show each employer what each learner can do: a report per learner, certificates anyone can check, and the code behind every grade.
- Your learner numbers rise and fall between intakes: you pay by band, and a quiet month costs less. See pricing.
- You want AI hints that staff control and can read, without an AI add-on.
Questions and answers
Is The Skill Site cheaper than Codio?
At list prices, from 15 active learners a month. For 100, The Skill Site costs $249 a month and Codio $1,000 before its volume discounts, which it does not publish. Below 15, Codio’s list price is lower than our smallest band. Ask Codio for a quote at your size to compare like with like.
What does Codio do better?
Full Linux containers and virtual machines, integrations it names with Canvas, Brightspace and Blackboard as well as Moodle, and a longer history than ours. If those decide it for you, Codio is the better fit.
What does The Skill Site do that Codio does not show?
The running of a cohort beside the coding: weekly timetables with class links, attendance registers, off-the-job hours, assignments with file hand-ins, and a report on each learner for their employer.
Can we move our courses from Codio?
Yes. A 30-minute setup call comes with a subscription, and we import a course for you for $250. There is no automatic importer: coding exercises are entered again as questions with tests, and Codio virtual machine setups need rebuilding as labs.
Where do these facts about Codio come from?
