An LMS plus an autograder, or one platform?

A common setup for training providers that teach programming is a course platform such as TalentLMS or LearnWorlds for lessons, and a separate autograder such as Codio or CodeGrade for code. For 100 learners that costs $899 to $1,579 a month at list prices, and two rosters to keep. The Skill Site does both for $249 a month.

What 100 coding learners cost a month

List prices in US dollars excluding taxes, billed monthly where a vendor offers it, for 100 active learners on 12-week intakes. CodeGrade charges per student per course, so its cost is spread over the three months of each intake.

The work two systems make

  • Every learner added twice, and removed twice, unless the two are connected on a higher plan.
  • Two sign-ins for learners, and two places for them to look for what is due.
  • Grades copied from the autograder into the LMS or a spreadsheet before anyone can see progress.
  • Attendance, hours and assignments in one place and coding results in another, joined by hand for each employer report.
  • Two vendors' data processing agreements to review, and two support desks when something breaks.

When two systems still make sense

  • You sell courses to individuals online and need a shop, which The Skill Site does not have.
  • Most of your catalogue is not programming, and coding is a small part of it.
  • Your LMS is staying for other reasons. Then add The Skill Site to it for the coding, through LTI 1.3.

Questions and answers

Why do training providers end up with two systems?

Course platforms such as TalentLMS and LearnWorlds run courses and quizzes, but their pricing pages do not mention running or grading code, so providers that teach programming add an autograder such as Codio or CodeGrade beside them.

Can we keep our LMS and use The Skill Site only for coding?

Yes. Through LTI 1.3 an instructor adds a graded coding quiz to a course in your LMS, and the grade goes back to its gradebook. It is tested with Moodle 4.5.

Does The Skill Site sell courses to the public?

No. It has no shop or learner payments: it is for providers whose clients are billed by the provider, usually employers. If you sell courses to individuals online, a course platform with a shop fits that part better.

What does one system save apart from money?

One roster instead of two, one sign-in for learners, grades that are already beside attendance and assignments, and a report per learner that needs no spreadsheet. It is also one vendor, one data processing agreement and one support desk.

Where do these prices come from?

Each vendor’s own pricing page, read on 29 October 2026, at list prices: monthly prices for TalentLMS, LearnWorlds and Codio, and CodeGrade’s per-course price spread over a 12-week intake. TalentLMS and LearnWorlds are cheaper billed yearly, and prices change, so check before you decide.
